Though there are several convenience stores and kiosks strategically placed in every corner around the city, sometimes they simply do not have the items you are looking for. Accra, Ghana’s bustling capital, is home to a variety of shopping malls that cater to every need, from luxury brands to local crafts. These malls are not just shopping destinations but also hubs for entertainment, dining, and socializing. Here’s a look at the top 10 malls in Accra that offer a vibrant mix of retail therapy and leisure activities. This list excludes shops and stand-alone supermarkets.
Note: Though most of the malls are listed on Google and online as 24-hour malls, we used the opening time of their earliest store and closing time of their latest store for the hours listed below.
1: ACCRA MALL

Not to be confused with The City Galleria Mall beside the Accra Mall complex, The Galleria Mall is situated within the Kempinski Hotel grounds, The Galleria Mall is known for its upscale shopping experience. It features a variety of premium stores, including fashion stores and home decor shops. The mall also hosts a couple of contemporary art galleries, making it a favorite among the city’s elite. The Galleria Mall at the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City in Accra officially opened in November 2015. This upscale mall is part of the luxurious Kempinski Hotel complex, offering a range of high-end shopping and dining options to both hotel guests and the general public. The Galleria Mall enhances the Kempinski experience by providing an elegant shopping environment.
7: ANC MALL

A&C Mall, situated in East Legon, is one of the oldest malls in Accra, having opened in 2006. 8: THE PALMS SQUARE

The Palms Square, better known as Spintex Palace Mall amongst locals, is located on the Spintex Road, and offers a comprehensive shopping experience with a mix of local and international retailers. It was opened in 2016 and quickly became a popular shopping destination. The Palm Square houses Palace Hypermarket, which provides a wide range of groceries, electronics, and home goods. The mall also features a food court, a children’s play area, a laundromat, an electricity depot, a gym and a pharmacy.
9: MAKOLA MALL

10: CHINA MALL

China Mall in Accra opened in October 2019 but now has multiple locations in Ghana including Accra, Tema, Kasoa, and Kumasi. The 2 branches on the spintex road in Accra, offer a unique shopping experience with a focus on affordability. It features a wide range of products, from household items and electronics to fashion and groceries all imported directly from China. The mall is popular among bargain hunters looking for great deals on a variety of items.
BONUS: OXFORD STREET MALL

The Osu Mall located in the heart of Accra’s entertainment district, was opened in December 2019. Osu Mall is a smaller but popular shopping destination that offers a curated selection of stores, including high-end fashion boutiques, electronics shops, and beauty salons. HONOURABLE MENTION: MELCOM SHOPPING CENTER
Though Melcom is not a mall, the presence of their numerous branches that sell everything from groceries to furniture warrant them a mention. Melcom, one of Ghana's largest retail chains, was launched in 1989. Since its inception, Melcom has grown significantly, expanding its presence across the country with numerous stores, offering a wide range of products from groceries and electronics to home goods and furniture. The chain is known for its affordability and extensive product variety, making it a popular shopping destination for many Ghanaians.
While there are overlaps between some of the stores in the malls mentioned above, the above malls offer more than just shopping. They also provide a space for social interaction, dining, and entertainment. Each mall has its unique charm and caters to different tastes, locations and preferences.
