After my experience last month, I decided to write this article to help event-goers in Accra locate emergency services no matter what time of the day or the nature of the problem.


Unplanned situations arise during at all hours of the day so being armed with knowledge of what to do and who to call can be very crucial. When my tire was slashed at 2AM on a Friday Morning (Read Here), I consulted this repertoire of emergency information to get myself home safely. From medical issues, to security concerns, and natural disasters, this article is your go-to bible for information on Emergency Services in Accra, Ghana.


The Ghana Police Service

Tasks: The Ghana Police Force are in charge of maintaining law and order. The police are fairly responsive and strive to ensure public safety, providing assistance in various situations, including accidents, theft, assault, violence, traffic management and criminal investigations.

They offer rescue and Evacuation services to those trapped by fire or in other emergency situations, They also provide fire emergency training, fire safety advice and electrical consulting to mitigate the likelihood of a fire.

During medical emergencies, time is of the essence. Knowing the contact information for nearby hospitals, clinics, and health facilities is crucial. The National Ambulance Service provides swift transportation to hospitals, mobile medical equipment and life-saving emergency medical services by trained paramedics. The NAS assists in critical situations such as accidents, sudden illnesses, and other medical emergencies.

After calling the Ambulance, try to administer First-Aid while you wait. Prioritize your safety and the safety of the victim, assess the situation, control any bleeding, be mindful of head and spinal injuries, and attend to burns.

Ghana is prone to a number of disasters, including floods, droughts, coastal erosion, tremors, quakes, epidemics, pandemics, pest infestations, thunderstorms that cause fires and power outages, and landslides. These are all managed by NADMO
